This year has already been tough on my partner and a friend. The loss of a loved one is never easy, and both their losses were sudden. Losing a parent or spouse ranks up there as one of the hardest events a human can experience, in my opinion.
I've had my own losses over the years: all my grandparents by the age of 23, my mother at 40, and so many other relatives; some way too young to be gone already. Plus, friends taken before their time.
Grief is a condition we will all experience at some point. I felt it was time for me to create a piece reflecting it.
My idea for the piece came from a quote from my favorite book, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe. The quote is from Ninny Threadgoode: "You know, a heart can be broken, but it keeps on beating, just the same."
The quote made me want to create a beautiful heart that held its beauty while displaying the pain of grief. I think I captured it.
Let me know what you think.
